Important
Age-restricted goods must not be handed over unless the delivery age check passes. This page applies to the pilot platform process and should be reviewed before any broad sale of alcohol, tobacco, vapes, knives, or other restricted goods.

When age-restricted ordering is allowed
- Age-restricted items can only be ordered from shops that have this feature enabled.
- The checkout blocks age-restricted goods if the shop has not enabled age-restricted ordering.
- The customer must confirm they are legally old enough during checkout.
- The customer must provide the recipient's date of birth during checkout where required.
- The recipient must be available at delivery and able to complete the required age check.
Challenge 25 approach
Riders may use a Challenge 25 style approach. If the recipient clearly appears 25 or over, the rider may use the over-25 confirmation path where the platform allows it.
If the recipient appears under 25, or the rider is unsure, the rider should ask for valid photo ID before handing over restricted goods.
Valid ID
- The ID must be a valid physical photo ID that appears genuine and belongs to the recipient.
- The rider may refuse handover if the ID appears altered, expired, unclear, mismatched, or otherwise unsuitable.
- The rider enters the date of birth shown on the ID into the platform.
- The platform checks the entered date of birth against the checkout record and the legal age requirement.
Privacy and delivery checks
- The rider is not shown the customer's stored date of birth.
- The rider either confirms the recipient clearly appears 25 or over, or enters the date of birth shown on the recipient's ID.
- The rider should only hand over restricted items when the platform age-check path passes.
- Age-check results may be recorded for safety, compliance, support, and dispute handling.
If the age check fails
- If ID is refused, missing, invalid, under age, or does not match the checkout record, restricted items must not be handed over.
- The rider is instructed to return the age-restricted items to the shop.
- The shop and platform admin are alerted so the order can be reviewed.
- Any refund, store credit, delivery charge, return, or cancellation follow-up is handled after the returned items are confirmed.
Customer responsibility
Please only order age-restricted goods if you are legally allowed to buy them and the recipient will be available at delivery with valid photo ID if required.
If the check cannot be completed, delivery of restricted goods will fail even if the rest of the order can otherwise be delivered.
Shop responsibility
- Shops are responsible for ensuring they are legally allowed to sell any age-restricted goods they list.
- Shops are responsible for product licensing, stock controls, product descriptions, and any additional legal requirements that apply to the goods they sell.
- Basildon Delivery may disable restricted goods, restrict a shop, or disable ordering where there are safety, licensing, compliance, or support concerns.
Need help with an age check?
If an age-restricted order fails, use the support page and include the order number. The shop and platform admin can then review the returned items, refund, credit, or cancellation follow-up.
